• Bihar's first glass bridge along with state of art ropeway has been constructed amid scenic five hills at Rajgir in Nalanda district. The 200-feet high, 85-feet-long sky-walk will be a part of the nature safari that has been developed in 500 acres of the historical Budh Marg.


• Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated three lanes of the newly-built Koilwar bridge on Son river through video conference. The 1.5 km-long bridge has been built for 266 crores and is parallel to the 138-year-old rail-cum-road bridge constructed during the British era.


• Center Of Tibetan Studies will be opened on the lines of Sarnath in Buddha Smriti Park at Patna.

Sanjeev Kumar Singhal has been appointed the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar.


• Governor of Bihar Sri, Phagu Chauhan inaugurated the eighth Bihar Science Conference organized by the Patna University in association with B Brains Development Society at Raj Bhawan. The theme of the conference was "Recreating Interest in Fundamental Science". First such conference was held in 2008.


• India's first power museum complex will be ready in the Karbigahia Thermal Power Complex of Patna. It will be constructed by Bihar State Power Holding Limited and responsibility of construction has been given to Rodico consultants.

• Construction of Dagmara hydro-electric project in Supaul will begin in 2021, it will be built on the Kosi river.


• The ancient tilh of Guwaridih,  situated on the southern bank of Kosi river near Jairampur in Bihpur block of Bhagalpur district in Bihar, has yielded five thousand years old chalcolithic age and 2500 years old Buddha Antiquities.

• From Bihar, Meghdoot Award 2020 has been conferred to Sarwesh Kumar. This award is given every year for excellence in postal service by the Department of Posts.


• Manish Kumar was awarded Prof. Yashvantrao Kelkar Youth Award 2020 for the sustainable farming initiative.


• Kiran Maithili Savi Award was awarded to veteran litterateur Jitendra Narayan Jha.


Few stats from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-5:

• According to the latest National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-5, Bihar has registered the highest prevalence of Neonatal Mortality Rate (NNMR) of 34.5, Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) of 46.8 and under-five mortality rate  (U5MR) of 56.4 across 22 surveyed States and UTs.


• In terms of antenatal care, 17 of 22 states/UTs saw an increase in ANC visits during the first trimester with Nagaland, Bihar and West Bengal demonstrating the highest increase.


Total Fertility Rate (TFR), which has come down to 2.1 or below (replacement level) in 19 out of 22 States/UTs, except Bihar (3), Meghalaya (2.9) and Manipur (2.2).


• In Bihar stunting rate was 42.9%2nd highest after Meghalaya 46.5% out of 17 States and 5 UTs) but it has shown a decline in stunting rates by about 5.4 per cent points in over the past five years. 


• The percentage of Underweight in under 5 children from 22 States/UTs stood highest in Bihar at 41%.


• In Bihar Wasting has increased by 2.1 per cent points at 22.9% in NFHS-5 survey. India alone accounts for almost 50% (25.5 million) of the number of wasted children in the world (49.5 million).

Neonatal Mortality Rate(NNMR)

The neonatal mortality rate is defined as the number of deaths to infants under 28 days of age in a given year per 1,000 live births in that year.

Infant Mortality Rate (IMR)

Infant mortality is the death of an infant before his or her first birthday. The infant mortality rate is the number of infant deaths for every 1,000 live births.

Under-five mortality rate  (U5MR) 

The under-five mortality rate or Child Mortality rate refers to the probability of dying between birth and exactly five years of age expressed per 1,000 live births.

Total Fertility Rate (TFR)

It is defined as the number of children born to a woman until the end of her child-bearing age.

Stunting, Underweight and Wasting:
• Stunting→less height for age;
• Underweight→low weight for age;
• Wasting→ low weight for height.
