■ A rare black stone Sun idol has been found during excavation on the premises of Baba Mateshwar Dham Temple at Katho panchayat in Saharsa district. The three-foot-tall idol carries lotus flowers in both hands. According to researchers, the Sun idol belongs to the Pala dynasty.
Three years ago, a rare black stone idol of Goddess
Saraswati of the pre-Pala era was recovered at Patuwaha village (Saharsa)
during a similar excavation.
■ The Social Welfare Department, Bihar has launched ‘Sunandani’
virtual programme under which Anganwadi workers will be given six months
certificate course on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)
and one-year diploma course.
To combat malnutrition the Social Welfare Department
has also started Energy Dense Nutritional Food (EDNF) – recipe.
■ CM Nitish Kumar handed over altogether 350 new
ambulances to beneficiaries under the Mukhya Mantri Gram Parivahan Yojana (MMGPY)
and also flagged off 50 CNG buses for Patna roads during a transport
department’s event.
A subsidy of maximum ₹2 lakh per
beneficiary
was being provided to two beneficiaries in each block for purchasing ambulances
under the MMGPY.
MMGPY was launched by the Government of Bihar in 2018 to provide
50% subsidy
to the socially
backward and unemployed (SC, ST, EBC) individuals from Bihar to purchase vehicles.
The scheme also aims to provide financial help to the rural people so that they
can start their
own employment.
■ The second Unit of 660MW capacity Nabinagar Super
Thermal Power Project (3x660 MW) of Nabinagar
Power Generating Company (NPGC) Ltd. in Aurangabad has commenced commercial
generation of power.
Bihar, which gets an average daily 4,000-5,000 MW power from Central sectors,
would now get an additional 559 MW of electricity, which is 84.8% of the total
power generated from this unit. The remaining power from this Unit would be
shared with Uttar
Pradesh, Jharkhand and Sikkim.
Bihar will draw roughly 1,122 MW of power from the two
NPGC units each of 660MW. The third unit (660 MW) is expected to be
commissioned within the next six months.
Nabinagar Power is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd.,
initially, it was 50:50 joint venture between NTPC and Bihar State Power Holding
Company.

■ Jehanabad has become the first district of Bihar to have 100% digital
banking. In 2019, the Central Government and the Reserve Bank of
India had decided to make at least one district in every state of the country
with 100% digital banking service

■ The Central University of South Bihar (CUSB)
has inaugurated its newly developed Milkha Singh Sports Complex on its sprawling
campus at Gaya.
■ Bihar has recorded over 800 times jump in the agricultural produce exports in the
last 15 years, from ₹ 3 crore in 2006 to ₹2,617 crore in 2020.
■ Bihar governor Phagu Chauhan and his West Bengal
counterpart Jagdeep Dhankhar jointly launched the book ‘Operation Khukri’ authored by Major General
Rajpal Punia.

■ Bihar Education Department has launched e-Sambandhan,
a web portal
for private
schools' accreditation.
This will simplify the process and bring transparency.
The step will also ease the process of getting grants and aides under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory
Education (RTE) Act 2009. Moreover, the state government will be able to
keep track of private schools, the number of kids studying in these schools and
kids getting benefit under the RTE Act as under Section 18 of the RTE Act 2009
and Rule 11 of the Bihar State Free and Compulsory Education of Children Rules,
2011, all private elementary schools in the state have to admit 25% kids from the weaker sections.
■ Banka District Jail has become the first
jail in India to start digital literacy campaign for prisoners, under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin
Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDisha).
■ The Bihar government conferred the Dr Rajendra Prasad
Shikhar Samman for the year 2020-21 and a cash prize of ₹3 lakh to Hindi critic and
poet, Prof Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari for his valuable contributions in
the field of literature.

■ According to serosurvey conducted by the Indian
Council for Medical Research (ICMR), Bihar has the third-highest seropositivity at 75.9%. This
suggests that over 3/4th of Bihar’s population have got exposed
to SARS-CoV-2 sometime in the past.
Madhya Pradesh has the highest
seroprevalence of 79% while Kerala
with 44% is the lowest among 21 states. About 67% of India's population above the age of six has been exposed to
Covid-19, according to the latest national serosurvey.
Seropositivity signifies the presence of antibodies to
the novel coronavirus in the blood serum.

■ In Begusarai for the first time in Bihar, a cow gave birth to a test tube calf through Embryo Transfer In Vitro Fertilization
(ET-IVF) Technique.
■ Under Namami
Gange project the sewage treatment plant of Munger would receive 70% of finance
amount from World
Bank while the rest 30% of project cost would be borne by the state.
The Munger project is estimated to be around ₹300 crore.
■ The Patna High Court has stayed quarrying of two
hillocks named
Lomas and Yagyawalkya in Nawada having caves with prehistoric paintings on their walls. The
hillocks are believed to be the abode of the sages of the Ramayana era as well as the
birthplace of Luv and Kush, when Lord Ram's wife Sita was in exile.
■ Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) located at Piprakothi,
Motihari
has been awarded India’s best KVK award for outstanding work in the field of
agriculture among 725 KVKs of the country.
■ Larsen and Turbo Pvt Ltd has been shortlisted for
construction of twin tunnels, underground ramp at Rajendra Nagar and six
underground stations from Rajendra Nagar to Akashvani, which is part of
Corridor II.
The Corridor II of Patna Metro will have a length of 14.5 km (7.9
km underground and 6.6 km elevated) from Patna Junction Railway Station to New ISBT. It
will have an underground twin tunnel
network that includes two metro rail tunnels’ lines – one north-bound and one
south-bound. It will be constructed through tunnel
boring machine and tunnel by cut and cover technology.
The construction work on a 7.4 km elevated viaduct from
Danapur to Patliputra and Mithapur to Khemnichak under Corridor I will also
commence soon. Corridor I will be 17.9km-long from Danapur to
Khemnichack via Mithapur, of which 7.4km will be elevated and 10.5km
underground.
The total length of both corridors will be 32.49 km. The proposed project cost is 13,365 crores
and the target to complete this project is 2024. The State government will
provide 20% of the project cost and the same amount will be given by the
Central government. The remaining 60% is taken as a loan from Japan International
Corporation Agency (JICA).

■ To inoculate people against the deadly coronavirus a
new campaign Tika
Wali Nav has been started in several flooded panchayats in Muzaffarpur and
East Champaran
districts.
■ In the Panchayat elections of Bihar, for the first
time both Ballot papers and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used to
conduct the polls.
Under the new plan, elections for all four posts in
the three-tier panchayat raj
institutions of gram panchayat, mukhiyas, panchayat samiti members and district
board members, would be held through EVMs (M2). In case of gram kuchhary, which have judicial
functions, election to the posts of sarpanch and panch would be held through
ballot papers.
In the guidelines issued by the State Election
Commission (SEC), SEC has banned use of places of worship for electioneering
in the upcoming panchayat polls. At the same time, the candidates will not be allowed to
use flags of any political party during campaigning. Such practices
would be construed as violative of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The SEC has also asked the contestants to duly inform the
authorities concerned about street plays performed by artists in
favour of candidates.
Staging
dharna or shouting slogans in front of the houses of candidates following statements
against their opponents in the fray will also come under purview of violation
of MCC.
■ A proposal was sent to develop Sabeya airport to repair its
dilapidated airstrip. The Sabeya airstrip at Hathua in Gopalganj district is part of the
Regional Connectivity Scheme-UDAN as an ‘unserved airport’.
Sabeya airstrip/Hathua Airfield is a military airport built during the British rule and spread over an area of 571 acres. This airstrip was last used in 1968 and need upgradation and renovation to begin the commercial flight operations.
